History

About Pendle Plant Craft

Pendle Plant Craft is a community-rooted space for plant-based learning, nature connection, and shared craft.

We gather in and around Pendle to learn directly from the land through foraging, cooking, making, walking, and paying attention. Everything we do is shaped by the seasons, by what is abundant, and by a belief that knowledge grows best when it is shared kindly and without pressure.

Pendle Plant Craft is not about extracting from nature or mastering it.
It is about relationship. Relationship with plants, trees, fungi, landscapes, and with one another.

What Pendle Plant Craft is, and what it is not

Pendle Plant Craft is not a service that is delivered to people.

It is a group of friends, neighbours, and learners coming together to share skills, knowledge, time, and care. Everyone who joins takes responsibility for themselves, for one another, and for the places we use.

There are no spectators here.
Only participants.

That shared responsibility is part of what makes the space feel safe, grounded, and genuinely supportive. Learning happens alongside cooking, conversation, laughter, and quiet moments. Everyone brings something, even if that something is simply curiosity or presence.

How Pendle Plant Craft began

Pendle Plant Craft began by accident.

During lockdown, a simple post on Facebook about plants and nature sparked conversations. Those conversations became shared walks. The walks became regular gatherings. Over time, those gatherings grew into a steady and supportive network of people learning together outdoors.

There was no business plan and no grand intention. What emerged instead was something many people were clearly needing. Connection. Purpose. Shared learning. A sense of belonging rooted in the land.

Pendle Plant Craft has continued to grow in that same way. Organically, relationally, and in response to the people involved.

A shared space, held in trust

Pendle Plant Craft does not belong to one person.

It belongs to everyone who takes part, everyone who shares knowledge, and everyone who contributes to its care. If anything, it belongs most to those who are not here yet. To future learners, future walkers, and future hands that will meet these plants and places.

That understanding shapes how we move.
Why we harvest carefully.
Why we share knowledge freely.
Why we take only what is needed.

Care for land, people, and learning sits at the centre of everything we do.

Learning, wellbeing, and responsibility

We believe wellbeing grows from understanding our place within wider systems.

Learning to recognise symbiotic patterns in nature helps us recognise them in ourselves. Giving and receiving are not opposites. They are part of the same cycle.

Pendle Plant Craft supports wellbeing by helping people reconnect with these patterns. Through learning together, contributing where we can, and accepting support when it is offered.

No one is fixed or defined here. We are all learning.

Sharing through food, recipes, and remedies

The recipes, remedies, and products created through Pendle Plant Craft are an extension of this shared learning.

They are not extracted for profit.
They are crafted to be shared.

People who join us often help gather, prepare, cook, make, and learn along the way. Some choose to support the project through donations or by purchasing recipes and remedies they find useful or nourishing.

This support helps sustain the space, cover materials, and keep the learning accessible. The best giving happens when it is received with understanding. That, too, is part of wellbeing.

Recognition and community support

Over time, Pendle Plant Craft has been recognised for its community impact through awards, local partnerships, and wider support.

These acknowledgements matter not as achievements, but as signs that gentle, grassroots approaches can work. That community-led learning has value. That care and consistency can build something meaningful.

What it feels like to be here

People come to Pendle Plant Craft for many reasons.

Some feel confident outdoors.
Some are completely new.
Some are rebuilding, resting, or finding their way back to themselves.

There is no pressure to talk, perform, or keep up. You are welcome to join in fully, step back when you need to, or simply be present.

The shared expectations are kindness, empathy, and mutual respect. Even those tend to take care of themselves.

What people say

“I came along nervous and left feeling lighter. The pace, the care, and the way knowledge is shared made it feel genuinely safe and welcoming.”

“This isn’t just foraging. It’s learning how to be in the world a bit more gently.”

“Pendle Plant Craft helped me reconnect with nature, with food, and with people in a way I didn’t realise I needed.”

You are welcome

If Pendle Plant Craft sounds like something you would like to explore, you are very welcome to join us.

Our walks, gatherings, and activities are organised collaboratively through the Pendle Plant Craft (Free foraging and well-being walks) Facebook group. This is where most things begin, evolve, and take shape together.

We also share a weekly outline of what’s happening on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and in time you’ll be able to find upcoming sessions listed on the calendar here on the website too.

There is no expectation to attend everything, keep up, or commit long-term. People join when they can, come along in the way that suits them, and take part at their own pace.

You’re welcome for a walk, a workshop, a shared meal, or simply to spend time learning alongside others. However you arrive, you’ll be met with care.

There is no rush.
The land is not going anywhere.

Recognition and Awards

Pendle Plant Craft has been recognised through local and regional awards for its community-led approach to nature connection, shared learning, and wellbeing. These acknowledgements reflect the collective effort of everyone involved.
